The Guardian, 1950-2002

The Hospital Employees’ Union’s newsletter was launched as a mimeographed publication in 1950 and then reborn as the Hospital Guardian in 1958. The name was chosen after the Manchester Guardian in the United Kingdom. Visit The Guardian digital archive (external link).

The first newsletter was published at the Labour Temple at 307 W. Broadway, Vancouver. Later issues were printed on offset presses at Broadway Printers in Vancouver.

Content includes:
● General office activities
● Sub-local news
● Bargaining news
● Social articles
● Union sports teams
● Contract concerns
● Photographs of members and events
● Editorials

The archive is organized by decade, then by year. Individual copies can be downloaded as PDFs. Issues after 2002 are found on the current union website.
