Lillian Cooper Money Fonds

Lillian May Cooper Money (1919-2016) was a life-long political and women’s rights activist. She championed many pursuits including the CCF/NDP and the YWCA. In 1941 she was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for possession of alleged Communist literature under wartime censorship regulations.

The fonds includes extensive newspaper clippings collected mainly in the 1940s. Records from local organizations affiliated to the World Youth Congress Movement (1930s-40s) are included. The international left-wing group promoted peace and leadership development. During this period the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) was influenced by the growing socialist movement and began to study social and industrial problems. The collection includes printed materials from conferences and meetings of both organizations in Victoria and internationally.
