New Westminster Waterfront Strike, Plaque

This bronze plaque is located at Quayside Park in New Westminster, BC. It was developed with the support of the Canadian Nautical Research Society.

The plaque was cast at Ornamental Bronze, a unionized foundry in Richmond which has operated since 1928. It was unveiled on July 5th, 2017.

This is one of many Plaques around the Province, a project of the BC Labour Heritage Centre which aims to recognize events, actions, episodes, movements, or experiences that played a significant role in the history of the labour movement and working people in all regions of British Columbia.

The plaque reads: Remember September 3, 1935 During a dock strike, police arrested 21 longshoremen picketing Pacific Coast Terminals. ILWU Local 502 still works the Fraser River. Rappelez-vous 3 Septembre, 1935 Au cours d'une grève des dockers, la police a arrêté 21 débardeurs sur le piquet de grève des terminaux de la côte pacifique.
