BC District Union News, 1944-1955 Newspaper
This union newspaper was published by the BC, Yukon and Northwest Territories locals of the International Union of Mine, Mill and Smelter Workers. The union was often referred to as “Mine Mill.” Visit the District News digital archive (external link).
The newspaper’s editor was Harvey Murphy, the union’s Western District Director. Their offices were in the Holden Building at 16 East Hastings in Vancouver. Murphy was perhaps the most influential Communist in the Canadian trade-union movement in the 1940s.
This was an intense period in Mine Mill history as inter-union conflict was fueled by Cold War politics.
